The Ankober Palace Museum has two gold embroidered
cloaks each consisting of 23 kilograms of gold and were
worn by Emperor Menelik II and his wife Empress Taitu
during their wedding.
The cloth covering the ‘Tabot’is embroidered with 36
kilograms of gold. There are also numerous gold
embroidered ceremonial umbrellas.

the ‘Gishen Mariam’ Church in Wollo, ij Northern Ethiopia.
This church is on aplateau shaped like a cross.
The annual feast of gishen Mariam is celebrated on 1st October(21stMeskerem)

The almost complete hominid fossil of a baby girl,3 3 million
years old,’ Selam’ was discovered in 2000 by Ethiopian
paleo- anthropologist Dr. Zeraysenay Alemseged un Dikika-
Afar Region
This belongs to the same species, Australopithecus
Afrensis, as another Ethiopian super star, Lucy( locally
known as’ Dinkenesh’) which is 3 2 million years old
and was found in 1974.
Unlike Lucy, the three year old baby girl (nicknamed
Selam) has fingers, a foot , a complete torso and most
important of all, a face.
Dr. Zeraysenay has also discovered fossilized stone
Tools used 3 4 million years making it the oldest in the
world.
the latest discovery is Ardi, 4 4 millon years old.
These finds without a doubt classify Ethiopia as
the cradle of mankind

Sebastopol Cannon
There were industrial activities at Gafat, near Debere Tabor during the reign of Emperor Tewodros II in the 1860’s manufacturing cannons and mortars.
• The highlight was the mortar ‘Sebastopol’ weighing 6.27 metric tons and designed to fire 500 kilograms cannon ball.
• The size of this cannon had no parallel in its time in Africa.

Islam crossed the shores of the Red Sea into Axum before it was even properly established in Saudi Arabia.
• Some of Prophet Mohammed’s relatives including 107 Muslims came to Ethiopia during the persecution of Muslims in Mecca, and settled in Nejash, Northern Ethiopia and then returned home safely after many years.
• Al-Nejashi in Tigray is the oldest mosque in Africa. The first building was erected in the 7th century.
