Teff

Teff is believed to have originated in Ethiopia between 400
and 1000 BC. It was so revered 35 centuries ago that it was
placed in the pharaohs’ tombs in the pyramids as the final
food on their journey to the after life.
 Ingera is made from Teff the staple food of the
Ethiopians. Teff is an extremely versatile grain that is
highly nutritious, It is the world’s tiniest packs a lot of
nutrients, including Calcium , potassium and lron.

’ Endod’ is a soap berry plant commonly available here and
is used as an effective treatement for Bilharza, water- borne
disease which affects almost 3000 million people in Africa .
‘Endod’ is locally used as laundry socap and in treating
various diseases. It also kills mosquito larvae. Ethiopian
Dr. Akililu Lemma was a pioneer in introducing the used of
‘Endod’ to the world

The Great Rift Valley passes through Ethiopia making it rich
in various species of birds, plants and animals.
 Lake Tana is the largest lake with 37 islands of which
20 islands have churches and monasteries of great
historical and cultural interest.
 Lake Abaya in Arbaminch is not only the largest but
also the longest in the Ethiopian Rife Valley.
 At Lake Abaya and Lake Chamo (an angler’s paradise)
one can fish the Nile perch’ which could weigh 100
kilograms and also catch the fighting ‘Tiger fish.
 Lake shalla is the deepest lake with a depth of 260
meters.
 Lake Langano is the only lake with a sandy beach and
is ideal for swimming and boating .
