Ethiopia is home to 277 species of mammals, 862 birds,
200 reptiles, 148 fish and 63 amphibians.
 of all the species in Ethiopia 31 mammals,21 birds,
9 reptiles, four fish and 24 amphibians are endemic
(Found only in Ethiopia).
 It is Africa’s leading birding destination.
 There are 20 National Parks, 4 wild life sanctuaries,8
Reserves, and a crocodile and an ostrich farm.
 The largest wild animal reserve is the Babile elephant
Sanctuary.
 It has an area of 6,982 square kilometers and has a
unique species of stunted elephant population.

120 meters below sea level.
 It is one of the hottest ( with temperatures over 50
degrees Celsius) and the most inhospitable place in
the world with many active volcanoes.
 There are salt lakes, smoking volcanic cones, hot
springs and sulfur fields in this region.
 In earlier times the salt tablets known as’ Amole were
used as currency.
