The ‘Danakil Depression ‘ with sulfur fumaroles and lunar
like landscape is one of the lowest place in the world. It is
120 meters below sea level.
It is one of the hottest ( with temperatures over 50
degrees Celsius) and the most inhospitable place in
the world with many active volcanoes.
There are salt lakes, smoking volcanic cones, hot
springs and sulfur fields in this region.
In earlier times the salt tablets known as’ Amole were
used as currency.
