Major traditional musical instruments are the ‘Masinko’-one
stringed, the ‘kerar’-6 stringed. the 10 stringed ‘Begena’-
(harp) used for playing ecclesiastical music and the
‘Washint’(flute). pipes and horns.
St. yared is considered Ethiopia’s father of music he
lived in Axum in the 6th century AD . He is the author
of cantatas, traditional education and various pieces of
religious literature that has been used by the Ethiopian
Orthodox Church for the past 1.500 years.
